Jen Shakti has been making art her whole life. She was raised in an artistic family of at least four generations. She’s been creating and developing her style for over 35 years in Southern California.
Jen’s formal art training began early at the Los Angeles County High School for the arts. She attended the Art institute of Chicago, for two years and received her BFA in fine arts from The Laguna College of Art and design in 1995.
The first chapter of her professional art career began in 1992 as a tattoo artist. The Mermaid’s Tale was her private studio in Orange County where she established herself as a leading female artist of custom designs, excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Beginning in 2008, she is best known for her pioneering practice called Sacred tattooing, bringing healing, and rites of passage ceremony back to the art, inspired by tattooing’s ancient and mystical history.
Jen developed her fine art and healing gifts alongside of tattooing. Her healer’s resume includes massage school, Kundalini Yoga teacher training, Reiki, Shamanic Energy medicine/ Healing the Lightbody School and training with the School of Intuitive Studies.
In 2020, Jen retired from tattooing to focus on her fine art legacy and healing practice. She and her husband Brandon live in Yucca Valley, an arts community adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park. Jen’s passion for the desert environment is the focus of the Desert HeART series. Guests are invited in the spring and fall, to visit her open studio, during the Highway 62 Art Tours. Jen is active on Patreon and her YouTube channel where she produces videos to share her artistic process and newest work with her community of patrons.
